A woman was caught on camera abusing and hitting a security guard at a society in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in what appeared to be a clear case of classism. The woman appeared to come from a wealthy family and seemed to be in an inebriated state.
The video has since gone viral, with netizens condemning the woman for abusing her class and assaulting the guard. News18 could not independently verify the veracity of the clip, which the platform cannot share due to the expletive language used.
The woman, identified as Bhavya Roy, has been arrested and an FIR lodged against her. She was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Sunday.
“A video went viral on social media in which a woman was behaving indecently with the security guard in Jaypee Wishtown Society. Taking cognizance of the video, the local Sector-126 police station has lodged an FIR against the woman (Bhavya Roy),” the police said in a statement.
“After the FIR was lodged, the woman was detained and further investigation into the matter is underway,” the police said. The woman has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 153A (acts prejudicial to harmony), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of public peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), among others, the police said.
Roy was slammed by several women, including Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, and Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi.
Maliwal took notice of the incident and directed the Noida Police to take strict action against the woman.
Chaturvedi tweeted, “The video of a lady using abusive as well as filthy language against her building guards is disturbing. Using classist slurs and abusing people of a state is criminal & shameful, hope UP police ensures she is punished for this behaviour.”
In the video, the woman purportedly argued with the guards about the delay in opening the gates. “Learn to respect women,” the woman is heard telling the guards. Roy was also seen dragging one of the guards around by his uniform’s epaulette and smacking him across the face. In the video, she can also be heard insulting the Bihari community and making abusive and lewd gestures toward men.
The incident follows another similar one in Noida, where self-proclaimed BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi was caught on video abusing and shoving a woman at a housing society. Following a spat on the premises of Grand Omaxe in Noida Sector 93B, Tyagi was arrested by Noida Police for allegedly abusing and assaulting a woman.
