Earlier on Thursday, hundreds hit the streets against the attack on the Presidency University. The faculty and the students of marched for 5 kilometres condemning the violence at the prestigous Baker's Lab in the Presdiency University.

Suspected members of the Trinamool Congress youth wing allegedly barged into the university premises on Wednesday and manhandled them. Armed with sticks, they ransacked the science lab where classes were being conducted.

Some teachers were allegedly assaulted too. The attack came despite West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's appeal for non-violent protests.

Female students at the Presidency University alleged that the attackers even threatened them with rape. "We were threatened with rape, beaten up. The hooligans threatened me thrice saying if I leave the campus, they'll rape me," said a student.

Presidency University Vice Chancellor Malabika Sarkar also added, "I am 100 per cent with the students. I am as shocked as my students. When I was a student I had seen this kind of violence, but not that brutal that some outside people come and break the gates. All I could see was people carrying TMC flags."
