New Delhi: Taking a cue from Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli’s fitness challenge to PM Modi, which was promptly accepted by him, members of the opposition too decided to throw in a challenge, albeit of a different kind, for the Prime Minister.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi challenged the Prime Minister to reduce fuel prices. He said the Congress will go on a nationwide agitation if the Prime Minister fails to do so and said he will wait for Modi's response.
Dear PM, Glad to see you accept the @imVkohli fitness challenge. Here’s one from me: Reduce Fuel prices or the Congress will do a nationwide agitation and force you to do so. I look forward to your response.#FuelChallenge — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) May 24, 2018
Congress Communications in charge Randeep Surjewala too presented an "economic fitness" challenge for the PM. He urged the PM to reduce the excise duty on petrol to lessen the burden on common man. Prices of diesel and petrol in India have surged to a record high, stoking opposition criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration for causing hardship to ordinary people. Rising global crude oil prices are largely behind the surge, but fuel is also heavily taxed by India's state and central authorities, accounting for about 40-50 percent of the retail cost of petrol and diesel.
RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly, too decided to jump in and threw in a slew of challenges for the Prime Minister. While Rahul had just one precise challenge for the PM, Tejashwi’s challenges ranged from jobs creation to problems facing farmers to atrocities against Dalits.
While we have nothing against accepting fitness challenge from @imVkohli . I urge you to accept the challenge to provide jobs to young, relief to farmers, promise of no violence against dalits & minorities. Would you accept my challenge @narendramodi Sir? — Tejashwi Yadav (@yadavtejashwi) May 24, 2018
This whole challenge chain was started by Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore who put up a fitness challenge video and urged people to keep fit and post their videos online.
#HumFitTohIndiaFit Post pictures and videos of how you keep yourself fit and send a #FitnessChallenge to your friends on social media. Here's my video and I challenge @iHrithik, @imVkohli & @NSaina to join in pic.twitter.com/pYhRY1lNEm — Rajyavardhan Rathore (@Ra_THORe) May 22, 2018
