New Delhi: Slamming BJP and Aam Aadmi Party, Congress on Tuesday claimed that both parties were responsible for the political uncertainty in Delhi in the last eight months since the Arvind Kejriwal-led government quit office.
"Congress has been saying that we have nothing to do with BJP and AAP. Both these parties have now been forced into elections out of compulsion," said DPCC chief Arvinder Singh.
"When the bypolls were announced, we said that we need elections to the whole Assembly. But BJP was always saying they have two options open to them. Then, when only one day was left before the last day of nominations, all of a sudden, they changed their stand and made a U-turn."
"It is a mockery of the system of democracy although we welcome the fact that Delhi's people now have a chance to choose a government of their choice," he said.
Ending months of uncertainty, the Centre today recommended dissolution of the Delhi Assembly with immediate effect after BJP, AAP and Congress expressed their inability to form the government.
Assembly elections in the national capital are likely to be held in early 2015.
"The Union Cabinet recommended dissolution of the Delhi Assembly with immediate effect," a senior Union minister said after a brief meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After coming to power following elections towards the end of 2013, the government led by AAP convener Kejriwal, which had the outside support of Congress, had resigned in February. President's Rule was imposed in Delhi on February 17, 2014.
