New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday remained ambivalent on the issue of projecting Chief Ministerial candidates in the forthcoming Assembly elections in five states.
"The situation is not the same in the five states. In some states, the party is out of power for 40 years while in others, it is in power for the last consecutive two terms," party spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters.
He was asked whether the party would project Chief Ministerial candidates in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Congress is in power in Assam and Puducherry while it is out of power for the past 30 to 40 years in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and is playing second fiddle to DMK and Trinamool Congress respectively.
In Kerala, Congress is leading the opposition United Democratic Front, which is in an upbeat mood in the wake of the good showing in the Lok Sabha polls in 2009.
