New Delhi: The Delhi government is considering legal action against anti-corruption crusader-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal for "illegally" restoring the electric connection of a daily-wage earner, who had allegedly been receiving inflated bills regularly.
Reacting to the act of Kejriwal, Delhi Power Minister Haroon Yusuf said an FIR must be registered against Kejriwal, accusing him of trying to create anarchist society.
"I consider this illegal. Legal action should be taken against Kejriwal and not the common people who are instigated by him. FIR should be registered against him. He is trying to create anarchist society. There are legal bodies to address the grievances of consumers," said Haroon Yusuf.
Earlier on Saturday, Kejriwal kickstarted his campaign for the Delhi Assembly election by taking on Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on inflated power bills, accusing her of being hand-in-glove with power companies.
Kejriwal also used the occasion to urge the people to refrain from making bill payments if they received inflated bills.
His supporters burnt electricity bills to mark their protest as Kejrwal kept his promise of restoring the electric connection of a daily wage-earner, Balram, who claimed of receiving inflated bills regularly.
Kejriwal, however, maintained that his act had nothing to do with an election campaign. He said, "Power tariff has been increased but records show that rather than increasing, tariff should have been reduced. Sheila Dikshit suppressed the order and increased the tariff by 100 per cent…there is corruption involved."
He further announced that his team was launching a 'bijli-paani satyagraha', and would invite punishment by breaking unjust laws.
