Exit Polls: Mamata to Win WB, DMK-Cong to Upset Jaya, BJP To Take Assam, LDF in Kerala

Most exit polls have predicted comfortable wins for Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, the DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu, the Left Democratic Front in Kerala and the BJP-AGP alliance in Assam.

In West Bengal, the prediction was on expected lines with most agencies predicting the Trinamool Congress will return to power with a slightly reduced margin. News X-Today's Chanakya predicted Mamata will return to power with 210 seats out a total of 294, much more than the 184 seats it won last time. All the others predicted that the Left Front- Congress combine will get more seats than what the two parties together did when they contested separately last time.

In Tamil Nadu, most exit polls have predicted that the DMK-Congress alliance, except C-Voter which predicts Jayalalithaa will buck poll history and come back to power for a second consecutive term. While Times Now C-Voter predicted only 78 seats for the DMK-Congress, Chanakya , on the other extreme, predicted 130-150 seats for the alliance in the 234-seat assemmbly .

None of the exit polls predicted any substantial gains for Vijayakanth's DMDK alliance or for the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2011, the AIADMK had been voted in with 203 seats. No party or front has won two consecutive terms in Tamil Nadu over the last four decades.

C-Voter went against the trend in Assam as well where it said the contest was too close to call. All the other agencies predicted a big win for the BJP-Asom Gana Parishad with Chanakya counting as many as 90 seats. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi rejected the findings, saying there was no visible anti-incumbency in the state. In 2011, he had been elected with 78 seats out of a total of 126.

In Kerala, nearly all the polls predicted a comfortable win for the Left Democratic Front with Axis My India giving the front a maximum of 101 seats. Kerala has a history of voting in the Left and the Congress-led fronts alternatively. In 2011, the UDF had won 72 out of 140, edging out the LDF by just 4 seats. Most exit polls indicated the BJP - which is in alliance with the new pro-Ezhava party Bharat Dharma Jana Sena(BDJS)- is likely to open its account in Kerala with Chanka giving it as many as 4-12 seats.

For the 30 seats in Puducherry, Axis My India predicted the DMK-Congress combine to get 15-21 seats, Chief Minster N Rangaswamy's AINRC 8-12 and AIADMK 1-4 seats.
