I will not seek bail in rape case, will try for a CBI probe, pursue all options: Suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur
Senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who has been suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government, has reiterated that he has not done anything against the state government.

Senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who has been suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government, has reiterated that he has not done anything that is against the state government.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, the suspended officer, who has been booked for allegedly raping a woman, said that he would not seek a bail in connection with the case as "there is nothing that implicates" him. He, however, added that he would continue to try to "seek a CBI probe in the entire course of events".

"My suspension is not because of indiscipline. I am being punished because my wife took on the illegal mining mafia," said Thakur.

The IPS officer, who is at loggerheads with the UP government over alleged tussle with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, further said that he would "fight this out" with whatever option he has, both legal as well as administrative.

Thakur also told CNN-IBN that his security hazard had increased following the fallout with the state government, adding that he was not provided any protection despite threat to his life.

"My security hazard has increased as two more cases have been filed against me. I am getting many phone calls where people are abusing and threatening me," said the officer.

He added, "UP state government has not offered me any protection. I want protection from the Centre, but have not been promised anything so far from the Home Ministry."

Thakur was suspended on Monday amid the tussle with the Samajwadi Party chief on charges of violating service rules.

Welcoming the suspension by the UP government, Thakur had said, "It's not easy to walk on honest path. I will approach the court against the suspension." He said the government did not inform him about his suspension and he got to know about it through media reports.

Thakur and his wife had also met Home Ministry officials on Monday seeking a CBI probe as well as protection from the Centre.

Thakur said a "false" rape case had been slapped against him after he lodged a complaint against the ruling SP supremo in Lucknow on July 10 for allegedly threatening him. "I want a CBI investigation into the rape charge against me," he said.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Mulayam's son Akhilesh Yadav on Monday downplayed the audio tape controversy. "Mulayam Singh Yadav was only trying to make Amitabh Thakur understand the things," he said.

On July 11, an FIR was registered at Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow against Thakur under sections 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, on the basis of an earlier complaint by a Ghaziabad-based woman. The IPS officer's wife has been named a co-accused in the FIR.
