New Delhi: Seizure of illegal liquor in poll-bound Delhi continued on Friday with Election Commission-appointed surveillance teams having recovered over 42,000 bottles till now including 9,000 of these seized in the last two days.

According to a latest data submitted by the EC-appointed flying squads and expenditure observers to the poll panel, a total of 42,882 bottles of various brands of illicit liquor have been seized by these teams from across Delhi and the national capital region.

The latest seizure of the suspect wine bottles was made on Thursday night from the Hari Nagar Assembly constituency from where these teams seized 720 bottles of "NV Besto" and 84 bottles of "Royal Stag" brand bottles from a factory premises in Mayapuri area.

"The liquor was smuggled in from Haryana," the report said.

"While distribution and transportation of illegal cash is not being reported in the last few days, liquor being used and circulated as illegal inducement for voters is being increasingly witnessed," a senior official involved in these operations said.

Apart from these, the data compiled by EC observers to the poll-panel said they have seized a total of Rs 32,20,000 cash and 40 fire arms in the poll-bound state since the Assembly polls were announced here on January 12.

The Commission has nominated over two dozen observers, drawn from Income Tax, Service Tax, Police and Excise departments for this task, and they have been recently directed to step up their vigil across all the 70 Assembly constituencies and their adjoining areas since the last week.

Delhi will go to polls on February 7 and the counting of votes will be held on February 10.
