Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday said an inquiry would be conducted into the instances of politicians as well as several IAS and IPS officers from the state acquiring more than one flat from the government quota.
"An inquiry in this regard will be conducted under the commission, probing the multi-crore Adarsh housing society scam after that probe gets over," Chavan told the Legislative Council.
He was replying to a supplementary question raised by the opposition leader Vinod Tawade who also sought stringent action against the beneficiaries.
Admitting loopholes in the law, Chavan told the House that apart from bureaucrats, political workers had also acquired more than one flat either in their own name or in the name of their relatives from the government quota.
The chief minister also ordered an inquiry into the administrative delay since 2005 in handing over as many as 847 flats, developed by 23 builders from Mumbai and neighbouring Thane, under the Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) Act.
The additional chief secretary of Urban Development department will conduct the inquiry and submit the report in two months, he said.
Chavan was replying to a query raised by Tawade and his counterpart from the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) Jayant Patil.
