New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will file his nomination papers for the Bharthana Assembly constituency in his home district of Etawah on Tuesday.

Mulayam is expected to contest from two Assembly constituencies, Gunnaur and Bharthana.

''I have been forced to contest the elections from two seats — Gunnaur and Barthana — on demand of the people and a directive from my party,'' PTI quoted him as saying.

''I have to obey the demand of the people and of the party workers,'' he was further quoted. Mulayam is presently a sitting member from Gunnaur Assembly seat in Badaun district.

He had won the Gunnaur seat by a record margin of over 1.83 lakh votes in the Assembly by polls in 2002.

The polling for the first phase of the Assembly polls will begin on April 7, and the subsequent six-phases will continue till May 7.

In all likelihood, the polls will witness a four-cornered contest, with the incumbent Samajwadi Party making a valiant effort to retain power and the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party trying to emerge as the single largest party.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress will be the two other main contenders in the race.
