Rahul Gandhi inducted into Congress CEC
The Central Election Committee finalises the party nominations for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi was on Thursday brought into the process of selecting party candidates for Assembly and Lok Sabha elections as he was inducted in the Central Election Committee of the Congress.

Other new members of the committee are Union Ministers M Veerappa Moily and Mukul Wasnik as also former minister BK Handique and former NCW chief Girija Vyas.

The new members, including Rahul, were present at the meeting of the Central Election Committee today presided over by party chief Sonia Gandhi in her first interaction with party leaders after her return from US post surgery.

The party's CEC finalises the party nominations for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Other members of the CEC headed by Sonia are Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, AK Antony, Ambika Soni, Janardan Dwivedi, ML Fotedar, Mohsina Kidwai, Oscar Fernandes and Ashok Ram.

Rahul Gandhi is the youngest general secretary in the party looking after Youth Congress and NSUI.

He was part of the four member-committee set up by Sonia to look after party affairs in her absence after she had left the country for her medical treatment on August 2. Other members of the committee were Defence Minister AK Antony, Ahmed Patel and Janardan Dwivedi.
