Bellary: Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Friday alleged "conspiracy" by Congress led to the arrest of former minister and BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy. The Karnataka Lokayukta report accused Reddy brothers of being involved in illegal mining activities.
"The party will evolve a strategy to counter the conspiracy," Gowda told reporters at Jindal Airport en route to Koppal to be present during filing of nominations by BJP candidate Karadi Sanganna for the September 26 bypoll.
Gowda said he would meet BJP central leaders in Delhi on Saturday to discuss the situation arising out of Reddy's arrest. Reddy is now lodged in a jail in Hyderabad.
He said the arrest will have no impact on the BJP poll prospects in Koppal bye-election.
Gowda held discussions with District Deputy Commissioner Aditya Amlan Biswas and Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Gupta over the unruly incidents that had taken place on September 6 during the Bellary bandh called by Reddy's supporters.
State unit BJP President KS Eswarappa and Minister for Rural Development Jagadish Shettar are accompanying Gowda.
Janardhana and his brother-in-law BV Srinivasa Reddy, Managing Director of Obalapuram Mining Company were arrested by CBI on September 5 for alleged illegal mining. The two are now in 14-days judicial custody in Hyderabad.
