New Delhi: The political circus in Karnataka turned still more intriguing on Tuesday after former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy hinted at differences within the JD(S) and spoke of floating a new regional party.
Kumaraswamy announced this hours after Karnataka was brought under President's rule for the second time in little over a month and the Assembly kept under suspended animation.
"I am not averse to floating my own regional political party," Kumaraswamy told CNN-IBN. "I will do everything to prove to people that I am a man of my word," he said.
Kumaraswamy blamed the BJP for the latest political fiasco. "It was the BJP that had sent a stamp paper to us to put our signature. Our memorandum of understanding was just a response to it," he said.
Venting his frustration over the situation, the former CM said "all the three political parties are equally to be blamed for the political crisis in Karnataka."
Kumaraswamy's father Deve Gowda's mission to Delhi, ostensibly to explore power-sharing options with the Congress, meanwhile, has taken a beating when the government decided to dissolve the government in the state.
While the Assembly has been put under suspended animation for now, government sources in Delhi said the Union Cabinet has decided to dissolve the House when the government approaches Parliament.
"We are coming back to Parliament, both for approval of President's Rule and the dissolution of the House," Union Information and Broadcasting Minister PR Dasmunsi said.
President Pratibha Patil signed the proclamation on Tuesday morning to bring the state under Central rule after the Union Cabinet accepted Governor Rameshwar Thakur's recommendation in this regard and advised such a course of action, sources said.
This meant a big setback for Deve Gowda's plans. The JD(S) chief had landed in Delhi on Monday hours after he broke ranks with the BJP. There was speculation that he was looking towards the Congress to try an form a coalition government for the next 19 months of the tenure of the current Assembly.
"I am still studying the situation. I can give a clear picture only tomorrow (Tuesday) and whatever I wanted to say I have already said," Gowda had said later on Monday.
According to sources, during the JD(S)' negotiations and bargaining with the BJP to form the government, Gowda had established 'live contacts' in the Congress notwithstanding his party's public spat with the latter.
