The Congress is continuing to face the heat for the decision to carve out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh with Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi sending his resignation to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Friday.
The leader from Andhra Pradesh had merged his Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress earlier in 2013.
Chiranjeevi's resignation comes after the statewide bandh called by Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Thursday to oppose the GoM's suggestion to include two Rayalaseema districts in the proposed Telangana state and create a Rayala-Telangana. TRS leader KT Rama Rao had also slammed the Centre for making the changes which he called unnecessary.
The Cabinet will now send the bill to the President who will send the bill to Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
Earlier, the Union Cabinet on Thursday cleared the draft Bill with 10 districts.
The Cabinet, however, decided not to include the proposed Rayalaseema districts (Ananthapur and Kurnool) in the proposed Telangana state. The decision was taken after an intense meeting which lasted for three hours.
