UP cannot be divided in haste: Advani
Advani promised that the Bharatiya Janata Party would look into the matter if it came to power.

Chandigarh: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani has given a partial thumbs up to the proposal of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to split Uttar Pradesh into four new states.

He said a state reorganisation exercise could not be done in haste based on just a Chief Minister's assessment.

Advani, however, promised that the BJP would look into the matter if it came to power.

"Breaking up states and creating new states should not be done in haste, but if we are ever in power again, we will definitely take steps in this direction," said Advani.

Advani made the statement while addressing a public rally in Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, members of the group Shiromani Akali Dal Mann protested and waved black flags during his rally.

It is the 36th day of his Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption and he is slated to head to Ambala from Chandigarh.
