Kolkata: After asking people not to watch certain channels, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that the state would launch its own television channel and newspaper.
The Trinamool Congress chief said that the television channel and the newspaper would publicise the activities and achievements of the government.
"In one year, this government has far exceeded development promises it had made," said Mamata.
She further said, "We are publishing a booklet that will have all information about our achievements in the past one year."
Reacting to the announcement by the West Bengal Chief Minister, the Left slammed her saying "she wants to compete with mainline media. She is making such announcements everyday".
CPM leader Mohammad Salim said that while Mamata was not doing anything for the poor in the state, she was putting the money in coming up with a television channel.
However, the Trinamool Congress was quick in backing the Chief Minister on the issue. Party leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar termed it a great idea.
She said, "It is a great idea to launch its own TV channel and newspaper. It is out duty to disseminate the correct information to the people."
