Vijay Sethupathi Was Disheartened When Super Deluxe Got Rejected As India's Official Entry For Oscars: 'Even If I...'
Vijay Sethupathi recalled his reaction when Super Deluxe couldn't make the cut for India's official entry for the Oscars.

Directed by national award-winning filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja, Super Deluxe is considered as one of the best films of Vijay Sethupathi’s career. A film about characters deeply rooted in reality had Vijay essaying the role of a transgender, Shilpa, which he pulled off with finesse and aplomb. His endearing portrayal of Shilpa’s anger, longing, affection garnered him widespread acclaim. In his recent interview, Vijay Sethupathi recalled his reaction when Super Deluxe couldn’t make the cut as India’s official entry for Oscars in 2019.

Speaking with the entertainment portal Bollywood Hungama, Vijay Sethupathi expressed, “It was heartbreaking for us also. Politics, something happened. It was not because I starred in the film. Even if I was not in that film, I wanted that film to go there. Something happened in between and I don’t want to talk about it. It’s unnecessary.”

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the iconic actors in Indian cinema with many hits to his credit like Jawan and 96. In an illustrious career of more than a decade, Vijay Sethupathi has nailed all the roles, whether that of the protagonist or the antagonist. Now, there are reports that he might again essay the role of a villain in the film Thalaivar 171, starring Rajinikanth. Lokesh Kanagaraj will write and direct this movie. Vijay Sethupathi and Lokesh’s collaboration has worked brilliantly in films like Master and Vikram. If the reports of Vijay Sethupathi’s inclusion in Thalaivar 171 are true, it will be their third film together.

In the meantime, Vijay Sethupathi will soon be seen sharing the screen space with Katrina Kaif in Merry Christmas. Helmed by Sriram Raghavan, the one-of-a-kind thriller is all set to release on January 12, 2024.

The trailer begins with a montage of various clips. On Christmas Eve, Katrina encounters Vijay Sethupathi and playfully questions whether he is single or if he discreetly removed his wedding ring upon seeing her. Soon, they head to her residence, and events take an unexpected turn. She requests him to stay, hinting that appearances can be deceiving. The narrative unfolds over the course of one night in what looks like an intriguing and suspenseful dark thriller.
