Gautham Menon said that he had prepared an 80-85 per cent script during narration and revealed that it didn’t meet the expectations of the actor Thalapathy Vijay.

The 2003 Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha is considered the biggest blockbuster of the actor Suriya in his film career. The movie not only became the actor’s first commercial hit but also paved the way for his journey to stardom in the film industry. The cop-drama was written and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. It starred Suriya, Jyothika and Jeevan in the lead roles. The film earned numerous awards for its direction, acting, music and cinematography. It also earned the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards in the category of Best Editor and Best Music Director.

Kaakha Kaakha, the movie that acted as a breakthrough for the actor Suriya, was initially offered to superstars like Ajith, Thalapathy Vijay and Vikram. As per reports, Gautham Vasudevan initially narrated the script of Kaakha Kaakha to Thalapathy Vijay for the lead role. In an interaction with Cinema Vikatan, the filmmaker said that actress Jyothika initiated the project Kaakha Kaakha and made him narrate stories to the top actors of the Tamil film industry.

“I have narrated the story to Vikram, Ajith and many others. Even I narrated the story to actor Vijay but somehow things didn’t fall in place" Gautham Vasudev Menon said. The interview, which was conducted three years ago, has resurfaced on the internet.

While other actors backed out due to unavailable dates or other reasons, Thalapathy Vijay decided to not do the movie due to the incomplete script, Gautham Vasudev Menon added. The filmmaker said that he had an 80-85 per cent script ready during narration and revealed that it didn’t meet the expectations of the actor.

“He wanted a full completed script. That’s his way of working and right too. That’s why the project didn’t happen" he said in the interaction with the fans. He further said that he went to shoot the film with Suriya without the climax and had only 80-85 per cent script ready while going on floors.

“He wanted to know the climax during the narration. I said that I would complete the climax once the shoot started but he wanted to know the complete script before going for the shoot" Gautham said. “It is how he works and is right also," the filmmaker added.

Kaakha Kaakha is a cop-drama written and directed by Gautham Menon, marking his second film after the romantic musical Minnale. The film was also officially remade in Hindi in 2011 titled Force. John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza played the lead roles while Vidyut Jammwal was seen in the negative role.
