Le Eco is a company that's taking the Indian market by storm. They recently made waves when they launched their new phones in India the LeEco's Le 2 and the Le Max 2 as both the phones did not have an audio jack.
Yes, the company decided that they'll get rid of the 3.5mm audio jack that we all love for listening to music on our smartphones. So what's their solution?
They replaced the 3.5 mm headphone jack with a CDLA Type-C interface. CDLA stands for Continual Digital Lossless Audio and as the name suggests it's capable of end-to-end lossless digital music transmission. And this technology comes as standard on both the phones.
It basically uses the USB Type-C connector on the phone for both charging and for listening to music. Almost all smartphones with 3.5mm jacks have a built-in digital-analogue converter (DAC), this sends power to the drivers of the earphones. But, that power is minimal and so the audio experience is in simple terms not that loud or clear. This is present even if you have an amazing pair of headphones and not just the regular ones.
With the LeEco USB-C CDLA earphones that you can buy separately for Rs 1,999, the connector features a digital audio processor that's built in. This basically works like how turbos work on a car engine. The digital audio processor gives that extra power before it sends the music to the earpods.
This is something special, as the audio quality is definitely better and clearer. The audio experience is a notch up than what you'll normally get on a 3.5 mm jack headphone.
Now this is a revolutionary change in itself. While most of the smartphones come with the regular audio jack this is a big bold step by the company. And it is a game changer when it comes purely on audio quality. Now if LeEco with their Type-C CDLA earphones can deliver top notch sound, it'll be interesting to see if audio companies like Bose and Sennheiser come out with Type-C headphones.
Companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus are already making phones with USB Type-C connector and the LeEco USB-C CDLA earphones works like a dream with both the Xiaomi Mi5 and the OnePlus 3. So now the natural progression is when more companies come out with USB-C earphones. And LeEco's USB-C CDLA earphones have definitely started the audio revolution in smartphones.
