Twitter Now Lets Users to Disable Replies to Fleets, Twitter Spaces Will Rollout Globally in April

Twitter is now letting Android users disable replies to Fleets. The feature essentially prevents viewers from responding to Fleets or react with emojis. The micro-blogging site had introduced Fleets last year that is inspired by Snapchat and Instagram ‘Story.’ With this feature, users can upload photos or videos with texts on them, which will disappear after 24 hours. Twitter had said that Fleets are for those users who are “conscious” to tweet. Meanwhile, the company has revealed that its Clubhouse-inspired voice-based chatroom Twitter Spaces will start rolling out next month.

According to The Hindustan Times, Twitter users with an Android device can disable replies to Fleet with a simple toggle. Android users can tap on the arrow next to the Fleet button and toggle off “Allow Direct Messages.” The report adds that the company plans on rolling it out to iOS soon. Instagram already offers this option for Stories, and the feature may reduce cyberbullying or unnecessary responses. Recently, Twitter extended Twemoji Stickers for Fleets in Japan. These stickers are an enhanced, 3D version of several existing emojis. Interestingly, Twitter does not offer users to add emojis on Fleets natively, and users have to rely on the integrated emoji option on the keyboard. The Twemoji stickers may roll out to other markets this year.

Meanwhile, some Android users are now getting an early preview of Twitter Spaces, the Clubhouse-inspired voice-based conversation room right on the platform. Twitter is aiming to make the live audio feature available to all users by April, a spokeswoman for the micro-blogging site told Reuters. The company has also shared a teaser of the feature and how it functions. Twitter Product Designer Maya Patterson had previously explained that the Spaces feature is meant to create a safe space for intimate conversations in public. It will essentially allow users to join or start a voice-based chatroom where they can discuss any topic. Admins will have control over who can speak or join. Participants can react with emojis during the live conversation.
