Wayanad Landslide Impact: Jio And Airtel Offer Free Mobile Data and Other Services For Affected Users
Airtel and Jio have come forward with assistance for mobile customers affected by the heavy landslides tragedy in Wayanad, Kerala this week

The calamitous landslide has wreaked havoc in the Wayanad region of Kerala this week. Hundreds have lost their lives in the natural disaster caused by heavy rains in the region and thousands have seen their houses break down in the event. The telecom operators in India have come forward with their support to keep the services running and ensure that people get all the tools to keep them in touch with their friends and family.

Here’s what Airtel and Jio have offered to the aggrieved mobile consumers in the region and other benefits the people in Wayanad can use to help them during this situation.

Jio

Reliance Jio, the leading telecom provider in the country has worked on ground to ensure the surge in data and network usage does not hinder its performance. Jio has set up another tower, as requested by the disaster management authorities in Wayanad that will keep the network strength high and allow people to keep their communication channels in the region clear

Airtel

The telco has announced that its prepaid customers can avail 1GB free data per day, 100 SMS free per day and unlimited voice calls for people whose validity of the plan has expired. The benefits are valid for 3 days, the telco has said. That’s not all, Airtel postpaid customers are getting extended periods to make their bill payments so that the services are not interrupted for their network. These customers can take another 30 days to pay their bills.

In the non-network efforts, Airtel has converted 52 retail stores in Kerala into relief collection points where people can hand over their support and items that can help people affected by the tragedy manage their resources.

Earlier on Wednesday, the military personnel intensified search and rescue operations in Kerala’s Wayanad district, where landslides have claimed more than 100 lives, with the Army saying that it has recovered around 70 bodies and rescued nearly 1,000 people so far.
