“Thinking about visiting India,” wrote Johnson on X (formerly known as Twitter). Alongside, he added a hashtag in Devanagari. It read, “Marna Mat”, which translates to “don’t die”.

What is Bryan Johnson’s “Don’t Die” community?

For those unfamiliar, “Don’t Die” is a community founded by Bryan Johnson aimed at “defeating all causes of human and planetary death and promoting prosperity”.

“We are at war with death and its causes. We are building towards an infinite horizon. We are fighting for the freedom to exist as long as one chooses. Why? Because we have things to do tomorrow. And tomorrow’s tomorrow. Until we no longer want tomorrow,” states the text on the website where visitors have the option to either “join” the community or “die”.

“For the first time ever, we can boldly imagine continued life is a choice,” in bold, it further proclaims.

Here’s how people reacted to his cryptic post here:

An individual wrote, “Welcome. Also ‘marna mat’ sounds super absurd as a translation for ‘don’t die’. Use ‘chiranjeevibhav’(chiranjeevi = live eternally; bhav = be). It’s a Sanskrit phrase which elders would say blessing the younger ones.”

“Use ‘deerghayu’. What you have used is ‘avoid dying if you can’,” said another.

A third commented, “You’re trying to stop the body from dying. But in India you’ll learn that the soul never dies. I think you’ll really enjoy it. Especially if you go towards nature there. The Himalayas are a magical place.”

“Pro tip: Buy bottled water,” posted a fourth.

A fifth joined, “Titanium ka bubble pehen ke aana. Raaste pe kutta, cow, vehicle koi bhi attack kar dega. Kuch kha liya toh tumhara biological age 30 se sidha 100 ho jayega [Come wearing a titanium bubble. Any dog, cow, or vehicle on the road can attack you. If you eat something, your biological age will jump straight from 30 to 100],” adding the hashtag “Aanamat”, which means “don’t come”.

“You could have found better ways to die,” shared a sixth.

In a social media post in April, Johnson announced that he is “transitioning” and shared photos from 2018, 2023, and 2024. He humorously noted that “even his Face ID is confused”. In response to his viral post, he also revealed that his pronouns are “it/it”.
