A charging bull, as is installed outside the US Wall Street, is seen as a symbol of financial prosperity and growth. On Friday, this prosperity came to a halt when CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm, experienced an outage. Crowdstrike provides services to a number of companies across healthcare, aviation and IT. One of its vendors is Microsoft. As a result of the CrowdStrike bug, many software went offline, including those that run on Microsoft. Overall this outage halted a number of activities globally such as flights getting delayed. CrowdStrike promptly fixed its issue but the full recovery of software can take a while.
In response to the CrowdStrike blackout, business mogul Anand Mahindra shared a photo of two men, who were in military gear, riding the buffalos. While sharing these photos, he wrote, “The pace of global commercial activity right now: post the Microsoft crowdstrike outage.” The choice of using a photo with buffaloes can be in contrast with the “charging bull” symbol of US Wall Street and other financial districts. Anand Mahindra’s post got over one lakh views.

Many people highlighted how depending on just one company or software maker can be harmful. An X user commented on Anand Mahindra’s post, “Just shows how dependent we are on digital currencies and computers. It’s like the world will come to a halt if something goes wrong with the internet and computers/AI systems.”

George Kurtz, the president and CEO of CrowdStrike, addressed the outage in a number of statements and reassured people that the courage was not a security threat.

He added, “We understand the gravity of the situation and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disruption. We are working with all impacted customers to ensure that systems are back up and they can deliver the services their customers are counting on. As noted earlier, the issue has been identified and a fix has been deployed. There was an issue with a Falcon content update for Windows Hosts.”
