India is considered one of the most secular countries in the world. It encompasses people who follow different faiths and beliefs. In India, the majority of people follow Hinduism. As a result, there are many temples that are constructed all around the country. People visit these temples with a lot of devotion, and there are different beliefs associated with these temples. Each temple houses different gods, and a variety of prasads are offered to these deities. There is one temple in Kanker Khera in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where devotees perform Aarti and offer cigarettes to Shri Dhanna Baba, the local deity, in the temple.
As per reports, in the famous temple of Shri Dhanna Baba, devotees not only offer cigarettes, but also liquor along with jaggery and gram in prasads. This special belief has been going on in this temple for hundreds of years. It is commonly believed that all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled when they visit these temples.
According to temple priest Rajesh, this temple is more than 500 years old. He revealed that the place where this temple was built was the residence of Shri Dhanna Baba, who was a big follower of Goddess Kaali. Once, he saw Kaali Mata in her rudra form, and then he asked where she was going. Kaali Mata had said that she was going to end the lives of demons. At that time, the Baba stopped committing genocide and instead decided to sacrifice himself to control her anger. When Kaali Mata came to take the sacrifice two days later, she saw Shri Dhanna Baba absorbed in her devotion. After this, Kaali Mata decided to keep him buried at his residence. Since then, Shri Baba Dhanna has worshipped at his residence. The people of the Gihara community worship Shri Dhanna Baba as their ancestors, and they believe that the place has been blessed by Goddess Kaali.
The local priest also revealed that Goddess Kaali had given a boon to Shri Dhanna Baba, saying that whoever comes to visit his temple will get their wishes fulfilled. It was also believed that Baba liked consuming alcohol and tobacco, and as a result, people offered them to the deity.
