In the age of social media, the pursuit of attention and fame often takes unconventional turns. A 27-year-old social media influencer from Bengaluru, known as Yash_Gowda_0271 on Instagram, recently found himself in hot water after his attention-seeking antics on the city’s metro system landed him in legal trouble. The young content creator faced backlash and legal consequences for recording videos of himself screaming in metro trains and stations, capturing the shocked reactions of commuters.
Santhosh Kumar, a resident of Geddalahalli in Bengaluru, and his mother visited the Upparpet police station to apologise for his disruptive behaviour, according to the report by The New Indian Express. A source from the metro rail confirmed to the news agency that the 27-year-old influencer expressed regret for his actions during the meeting. Santhosh, who has studied up to Class 10 and is currently unemployed, has a significant following on Instagram, with 1.62 lakh followers. His content typically features colourful shirts, shades and interactions with people in public spaces.
According to a metro rail source, Santhosh’s troublesome habit involves screaming inside metro trains to capture the startled reactions of fellow passengers. The influencer would then upload these videos as reels on Instagram. The videos gained popularity, but Santhosh would eventually take them down, only to repost them later. The situation escalated when officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) discovered one of these videos.
Upon discovering Santhosh’s disruptive content, BMRCL officials decided to take action. The source explained, “Kumar had the habit of screaming inside Metro trains and shocking co-passengers. He would record their reaction and upload them as reels on Instagram.”
BMRCL instructed its security team to monitor Kumar’s social media accounts closely and remain vigilant. Recently, Kumar posted pictures featuring him and his friends on his two-wheeler, revealing the registration number. Utilising this information, the authorities gathered details about his address. A formal complaint was filed against Kumar at the Upparpet police station on Friday, the news agency added.
Initially, there was some reluctance on the part of the police to register the complaint. However, metro’s Security Officer Puttamadaiah insisted on taking action against Kumar, prompting the police to eventually accept the complaint. Subsequently, Kumar was summoned to the police station, where he, accompanied by his mother, presented a written apology, resolving the matter with the authorities.
It further reported that the incident was followed by the prankster being summoned to the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Metro station on Saturday. He was officially booked under Section 59 (1) of the Metro Act for causing a disturbance on BMRCL premises.
As part of the consequences, he was required to pay a penalty of Rs 500 and received a stern warning from the authorities. Additionally, he was instructed to delete all posts related to the Metro from his Instagram handle as a measure to rectify the impact of his disruptive actions.
