Cabin Crew To Pilot: Captain Neetu Gupta's Journey Will Inspire You To The Core
Before becoming a pilot, Captain Neetu Gupta started her career as a cabin crew and she was inspired to change her path after forming close friendships with pilots.

In celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, IndiGo proudly welcomed 72 new female pilots to its Airbus fleet and 5 to its ATR fleet. Among them is Captain Neetu Gupta, who followed her dream of flying despite many obstacles. Before becoming a pilot with one of India’s top airlines, Gupta started her career as a cabin crew. She was inspired to change her path after forming close and genuine friendships with pilots. Determined to transform her life, Gupta used to spend her free time studying for exams while ensuring passengers’ safety, comfort and requirements.

In an interview with NDTV, the Delhi-based captain shared her inspiring journey, revealing that achieving your goals requires hard work and dedication. Before turning her dreams into reality, she faced a tough challenge when her parents, who had traditional views, wanted her to follow a simple path in life and settle down. Going against their expectations, Gupta became a pilot and over time, her family became her biggest supporter, who helped her reach the skies.

Captain Neetu Gupta further explained how she balanced working full-time as a cabin crew with studying for her exams. She took advantage of night time and layovers to focus on her studies. She said, “I used to carry my books everywhere. Between flights, during layover, and even on the flight deck when time allowed, I immersed myself in studying for the exams.”

Giving advice to youngsters, Gupta stated, “Don’t stop yourself. Don’t limit yourself. If you want to achieve something and put in your hard work, nobody can stop you. The sky is not the limit.”

Welcoming Captain Neetu Gupta and 76 others, Captain Ashim Mitra, Senior Vice President of IndiGo, said, “At IndiGo, we have always promoted a workplace that thrives on diversity and inclusivity. We acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contributions made by women at IndiGo, not just for their technical prowess but also as inspirational leaders within our organization. We firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are not just integral to our core values, but they are also key drivers of innovation and growth. We pledge to continue upholding these values in all our endeavours.”

According to Aviation A2Z, IndiGo now has over 800 female pilots, which means the airline has 14% female workforce, which is higher than the global average of 5-8% women pilots.
