Delhi’s renowned “Vada Pav girl,” Chandrika Gera Dixit, gained widespread recognition for serving delectable Vada Pav, a popular Maharashtra street food comprising a deep-fried potato dumpling nestled in a bread bun sliced almost halfway through, all while exuding a vibrant smile and aura. However, a recent viral video captured a starkly different scene as Dixit, visibly distraught, broke down.
Amid sobs, Dixit lamented over the phone, “Bohot pareshan kar rahe hai…police wale…MCD wale.” She accused Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials of relentless harassment, threatening to shutter her pushcart and demanding increasing sums of money. Although the exact motive behind their actions remains unspecified, Dixit asserted that they solely seek financial gain, citing a recent payment of “around Rs. 30,000- Rs.35,000.” Amidst her distress, she echoed, “Sab paison ka khel hai.”
She subsequently engaged with customers, sharing her predicament before purportedly calling her brother to hasten to her aid as MCD officials continued their threats.
Seeking validation, she questioned customers if she was in the wrong, to which many asserted that earning a livelihood isn’t wrong and pledged their support.

Commentary and empathy flooded in from various users, with some advising Dixit to seek permission from the MCD to prevent further harassment. “It is not about men or women it is about the rules by the mcd. Basically these food stalls are an encroachment on the government land. And also if these foods stall are allowed then why do others have to buy a commercial property then get all the licenses from the authority. There are multiple licenses required and the price to get these licenses are way to expensive. So ofc why should we allow these stalls,” expressed one user.
Another suggested, “Take license and do it officially no one will come and bother you.”
