The emergence of social media has given birth to influencers. They post funny and relatable content to keep the audience entertained. Influencers often start using their fame to promote businesses and restaurants. The collaboration between influencers and restaurants is considered to be a good strategy by market experts. Recently, such a collab resulted in an ugly fight on social media. A UK restaurant dished up a verbal smackdown to a ‘blue tick’ influencer after she asked them to let her eat at their establishment for free in return for a promotion. She claimed that her supposed celeb status would help their restaurant in gaining customers. The restaurant is named Lucky Ramen. It claims to be the only pan-Asian brunch spot in Manchester. Lucky Ramen outright rejected the influencer’s offer by saying that they ‘appreciate paying customers even more’ and uploaded the text messages through their social media handle, exposing the baseless market proposition of influencers nowadays. It turned into an ugly spat between the restaurant and the influencer. The story has gone viral now.
In a hopeful collaboration with the Lucky Ramen restaurant, a blue tick influencer texted the eatery, “Hey sorry I know it’s short notice but I’m in Manchester tomorrow and looking for somewhere for brunch with my partner, would you be open for a collab with my for a post on my story and page.” To this, Lucky Ramen said that they don’t need ‘exposure’ to pay the bills and would appreciate it if they paid for the food instead of asking for a free feast.
It was bound to turn into an ugly spat. As per The New York Post, the influencer replied, “Personally, I think you’re bang out of order. HOW DARE you try to expose us like that???” She claimed that they only asked for a free feast because they wanted to promote the restaurant with the help of their celebrity status. “We don’t expect much, just a free meal to compensate for the time, labour, effort, and positive energy that we are supplying you,” the influencer added, as quoted by New York Post. She also declared that she won’t be visiting the Lucky Ramen restaurant now.
In a final rebuttal on their Insta page, the restaurant asked the influencer to pay for the food if she visits next time. But for the time being, the eatery asked the influencer to not visit the place as they won’t treat the influencers for free at their restaurant.
