Former British prime minister Tony Blair said by the middle of this century there will be three new global superpowers – the US, China and India – during a discussion with a Singaporean newspaper.
“You have got to decide where your country fits in the world, because it is going to be a world that is going to be multipolar, (where there) will be, in my view, by the middle of this century, three superpowers effectively: America, China and probably India,” Blair told The Straits Times earlier this month during annual Asia Summit hosted by the Milken Institute.
Blair said world leaders should now get ready to navigate a new ‘complex world order’ which will be shaped by these three nations.
“Therefore, you are going to have to build strong alliances that enable you to talk to these three superpowers with some level of, you know, equality,” he added.
The International Monetary Fund and the World Economic Forum predict that India could become the world’s third-largest economy by the close of this decade, trailing only behind the United States and China.
The geopolitical competition between the US and China is increasingly evident in their economic and industrial strategies and will also play a role in shaping the new world order as supply chains shift away from China.
India is considered a “friend-shoring” partner by the United States, meaning that US companies are encouraged to establish supply chains and manufacturing operations in India due to the country’s friendly relations and strategic importance.
