'False And Fabricated': Sheikh Hasina's Son Denies Claims Of Resignation Statement From His Mother
Last week, Hasina, 76, resigned as prime minister of Bangladesh and fled to India amid political tensions ignited by student protests

Sajeeb Wazed, the son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has dismissed reports that a resignation statement attributed to his mother and published in a newspaper is “completely false and fabricated”.

“The recent resignation statement attributed to my mother published in a newspaper is completely false and fabricated. I have just confirmed with her that she did not make any statement either before or since leaving Dhaka,” Wazed wrote in a social media post on ‘X’.

According to the alleged “resignation statement,” Hasina claimed she could have remained in power if she had given “Saint Martin and the Bay of Bengal to America,” India Today reported.

“I could have remained in power if I had left St. Martin and the Bay of Bengal to America. Please do not be used by radicals,” the letter purportedly read.

In the alleged letter, Hasina claimed she fled the country to prevent further loss of life. “Maybe if I was in the country today, more lives would have been lost, more wealth would have been destroyed. I removed myself, I came with your victory, you were my strength, you did not want me, I myself then left, resigned”, the letter read.

Last week, Hasina, 76, resigned as prime minister of Bangladesh and fled to India in response to mass student-led protests against her government over a controversial job quota system.

Following Hasina’s resignation, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government.

He was sworn in as the head of the interim government on August 8. The economist-turned-politician took the oath of office from President Mohammed Shahabuddin during a ceremony at the presidential palace, Bangabhaban.
