Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik is set to visit Pakistan to deliver a series of public lectures in the major cities of Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, according to an update on his social media pages.

Naik’s tour will kick off in Karachi on October 5 and conclude in the national capital on October 20. Zakir Abdul Karim Naik is a fundamentalist Islamic preacher who left India in 2016 and fled to Malaysia amid charges of spreading hatred and money laundering.

The 58-year-old Islamic preacher, known for his inflammatory speeches, will tour the country with his son, Fariq Naik, who will also participate in the lectures. According to Pakistan’s Express Tribune newspaper, Naik’s lecture in Karachi will focus on “the purpose of our life,” while Fariq Naik is scheduled to speak on “Kya Quran ko Samajh kar Parhna Zaroori Hai” (Is it necessary to understand the Quran while reading?).

Earlier this month, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju ripped into controversial Zakir Naik over his bid to “mislead” Indian Muslims on the Waqf Amendment Bill. In a social media post on X on September 10, the minister also said the people of the country have a right to have an opinion.

Rijiju’s remark came after an X post by Naik, wherein the preacher asked the Muslims in India to “stand together to defend the sanctity of Waqf” and “reject the Waqf Amendment Bill”. In response, Rijiju wrote, “Please do not mislead the innocent Muslims from outside our country. India is a democratic country and people have the right to their own opinion.” “False propaganda will lead to wrong narratives,” he added.
