Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the Indian diaspora in Vienna on his maiden trip to Austria and talked about the nation’s achievements in the last decade.
Addressing the Indian diaspora in Vienna, Modi said that after 41 years, an Indian Prime Minister has visited the country and described his visit as “meaningful”.
“This is my first trip to Austria. The excitement I am seeing here is incredible. An Indian PM has visited here after 41 years. Don’t you think the wait was too long but now it is over,” he said.
The Prime Minister said India has given ‘Buddha’ to the world, not ‘Yuddha’ (war) which means it has always given peace and prosperity, and therefore the country is going to strengthen its role in the 21st century.
“For thousands of years, we have been sharing our knowledge and expertise. We didn’t give ‘Yuddha’ (war), we gave the world ‘Buddha’. India always gave peace and prosperity, and therefore India is going to strengthen its role in the 21st century,” Modi said in Austria, a day after he arrived here from Moscow where he highlighted the importance of finding a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict during his talks with President Vladimir Putin.
Highlighting achievements of his government in the last 10 years, the PM said that India is working at an incredible pace in every sector that two new colleges had opened every day and a new university had opened every week.
“India is the most talked about topic these days in the world. Everyone wants to learn about Indi as it represents 1/6th of the world’s population and is contributing to the world in the same proportion,” PM Modi said.
About India’s rapidly growing economic stability, the PM said, “Today, when you hear about fast development happening in India….your chest also swells with pride. When I came into power in 2014, the economy was in 10th position. Now, we are at 5th position and the economy is growing at a rate of 8%. At this speed, We will soon enter the top 3. We are working towards a paperless but seamless economy.”
“India is working at an incredible pace in every sector. In the last 10 years, every day 2 new colleges have opened, and every week a new university has opened. Last year, every day more than 250 patents were granted,” he added.
Talking about the long-standing relations between both nations, PM Modi said, “This wait ended at a historical moment as India and Austria are celebrating 75 years of friendship.”
Earlier in the day, Modi met four leading Austrian Indologists and scholars of Indian history and thought and exchanged views on Indology and facets of Indian history, philosophy, art and culture.
Modi also met Nobel Laureate Anton Zeilinger, a renowned Austrian physicist and exchanged views on the role of Quantum Computing and Quantum Tech in contemporary society and the promise it holds for the future.
The Prime Minister arrived in Vienna from Moscow on Tuesday night after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He also held talks with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and exchanged in-depth assessments of recent developments in Europe as well as West Asia.
