Why You Must Start Your Day With Warm Water On Winter Mornings

It’s important to stay adequately hydrated, be it in summer or winter. People often drink less water during winter; some prefer only warm water during this season, especially when they wake up. Now, the question arises, how much hot water should be consumed in winter mornings? What should be the correct temperature of the water consumed as per the requirements of the human body? Dr Jitendra Sharma interacted with News 18 Hindi regarding these questions. He is an Ayurvedic specialist at Balrampur Hospital in Lucknow. One or two glasses of warm water should be consumed early in the morning before brushing your teeth, he stated.

1. Correct temperature of the water– Dr Jitendra Sharma said that the temperature of the water to be consumed in the morning should be between 60°F to 100°F (16°C to 38°C). As per the expert, people should always opt for lukewarm water. Excessively cold or hot water can be harmful to your health.

2. Kapha dosha– The doctor said that people who are suffering from coughs should drink lukewarm water. This water helps remove toxins from the body and provides relief from cough-related ailments.

3.Pitta dosha– When people are suffering from the pitta dosha in the winter, they face a lot of health issues. These issues include a burning sensation in the stomach and chest. It also includes ailments like indigestion, constipation, acidity problems, insomnia, and skin rashes. To get rid of this dosha, the water’s temperature needs to be proportional to the body temperature.

4. Vata Dosha– Cold weather, food, and freezing daytime are the ideal conditions for the Vata Dosha. In this case, one should avoid drinking excessively hot and cold water. Only lukewarm water with a temperature between 16°C to 38°C should be preferred.

How to consume warm water

As per Dr Jitendra Sharma, it is not correct to consume plain lukewarm water in the morning. This can harm health. It would be better if you mix a little bit of ghee or lemon in the hot water. You can also consume water at the normal temperature with honey mixed in it, while travelling.
