Fayza Lamari, mother of Kylian Mbappe, revealed that Lionel Messi’s jersey from the FIFA World Cup final has been framed at their house.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match between Argentina and France was nothing less than a rollercoaster for those who remember it. The match, played in Russia’s Kazan Arena, witnessed 7 goals as France eeked out a 4-3 win against the South Americans

Be it Argentina’s Angel Di Maria’s volley in the first half or French right-back Benjamin Pavard’s ‘Goal of the tournament’, the match was memorable at many points. Apart from that, it also marked the rise of Kylian Mbappe as a footballing superstar as he scored a brace. It was more memorable for many as he outshined footballing legend Lionel Messi, who had to satisfy himself with two assists.

In a recent video that is going viral, Fayza Lamari, mother of Kylian Mbappe, reveals that Lionel Messi’s jersey from that match has been framed at their house. After the thrilling encounter that eliminated Argentina from the World Cup, Mbappe and Messi exchanged their jerseys.

The video shows that despite Mbappe considering Cristiano Ronaldo his idol and inspiration in childhood, his respect towards Lionel Messi is unmatched.

While Mbappe went on to win that edition of the World Cup, Lionel Messi took his ‘revenge’ in 2022 with Argentina lifting the World Cup for the third time – Lionel Messi’s first – after 36 years.

The final of 2022, hosted by Qatar’s Lusail Stadium, is considered arguably the best final of World Cup history as both teams were tied 3-3 after 120 minutes. Argentina won it via a 4-2 penalty shootout scoreline.

While in 2018, Mbappe was adjudged the best young player of the tournament, he won the Golden Boot in 2022 for scoring the most goals, solidifying his World Cup legacy.

Lionel Messi went on to win the Golden Ball in 2022 for being the best player in the tournament; his second after winning one in 2014.

Both Mbappe and Messi also teamed up for two seasons in French outfit Paris Saint Germain where they won two leagues and one Trophees des Champions, the French edition of Super Cup.
