The father-son duo had posed for a photo from Instagram where the pair were seen holding the World Cup 2023 trophy after defeating India.

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh was seen celebrating Australia’s World Cup 2023 triumph along with his father and former cricketer Geoff Marsh. Mitchell shared four pictures on Instagram giving an insight into what the celebrations in the locker room were like after Australia’s historic World Cup win in India.

In the caption of his post, Mitchell wrote, “World Champions”. Among these images, the Aussie all-rounder can be seen posing along with his father. The father-son duo can also be seen holding Australia’s sixth World Cup trophy together.

Geoff is one of Australia’s famous cricketers who was also a key member of the country’s World Cup-winning team in 1987. Just like his father, Mitchell also had a solid World Cup campaign this time.

As the 2023 World Cup began, all eyes were on Mitchell Marsh who was expected to be in top contention for the Player of the Tournament award. While Marsh might not have managed to put up a record-breaking tally at the World Cup, he did boast some formidable numbers with the bat.

The Aussie all-rounder scored a whopping 426 runs in the group stage of the competition. Overall, he finished the campaign with 441 runs in 11 matches. Marsh has put up these numbers while registering a staggering average of 49.00. His best performance at the World Cup 2023 came in the fixture against Bangladesh where Marsh produced a magnificent knock of 177 runs off 132 balls.

Despite Mitchell Marsh’s unimpressive performance in the final, Australia were able to outclass India in multiple aspects of the game. They had a brilliant fielding display with a pace triumvirate of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood constantly kept Indian batters under pressure. In the run chase, Australia lost three wickets, including the one of Marsh, early but was able to regain control thanks to a powerful century from Travis Head.

Speaking of Mitchell Marsh’s father, Geoff Marsh was an absolute menace in the 1987 World Cup which also took place in India. He had scored 428 runs in eight games in the tournament back then. Geoff did so while maintaining an impressive average of 61.14. This saw him finish the tournament as the third-highest scorer and eventually a world champion as well.
