The Noida Authority soon plans to construct a new four-lane underpass on the Greater Noida Expressway to improve traffic flow in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
This strategic infrastructure project, which focuses on reducing congestion, is expected to benefit residents from six sectors and seven villages in the region.
The Noida expressway is lined with dozens of residential, industrial, and mixed-use developments, and it reportedly attracts approximately 1,00,000 commuters every day. Traffic congestion is a problem for commuters, especially during peak hours.
The upcoming underpass will be located in front of Jhatta village and will be about 800 metres long. The project is expected to cost Rs 92 crore, according to reports. The purpose of the four-lane building is to improve access for residents living in Sectors 145, 146, 155, and 159 as well as the nearby Gayi villages. There are often traffic jams at this location because the small underpass that is currently in place is unable to handle the heavy volume of vehicle pressure.
These problems have affected villages along the expressway, including Jhatta, Nalgarh, Kambakhshpur, Badauli, Deri Pandit, Momnathal, and Garhi Samastipur.
The first underpasses near Advent, Kondli, Jhatta, Bakhtawarpur, and Shahpur were constructed to help people and animals from the surrounding villages move around the expressway, but they are now insufficient to handle the increasing volume of traffic and population.
The Noida Authority had initially intended to enlarge the current underpasses because it recognised the need for upgraded infrastructure. However, in 2019, a new plan that called for building four more underpasses was prompted by logistical issues. Furthermore, three of these projects—the Sector-96, Kondli, and Advent underpasses—have already been finished. Following an inspection conducted in January by Dr Lokesh M, CEO of the Noida Authority, the Jhatta subway project has been approved, as reported by TOI.
With more underpasses planned, including one in front of Sultanpur Village, the Noida Authority is prepared to address traffic concerns in the future. These programmes demonstrate Noida’s dedication to supporting sustainable urban growth and making sure that its expanding population can move around easily.
An additional important project is the Chilla elevated road, which will link the Mahamaya flyover on the Noida expressway with Mayur Vihar in Delhi. After this road (which has been delayed by several years) opens, commuters from Ghaziabad and Delhi can bypass the Noida expressway and go straight from the flyover to the Bandh road. This will restrict traffic on the expressway to those coming from the Noida sectors.
