The Western Railways has announced the cancellation of more than 100 local trains traversing between Churchgate and Virar on Mumbai‘s bustling Western Suburban Railway network.
The reason behind this widespread disruption? A colossal mega block scheduled for October 27, in support of the ambitious sixth railway line construction project linking Khar and Goregaon railway stations.
Adding to the daily challenges that travelers face, earlier this week, the Western Railway issued a notice about a 10-hour Jumbo Block on the Harbour lines, which will affect rail traffic between Andheri and Goregaon stations. This massive effort is all part of the larger plan to build the sixth line connecting Khar Road and Goregaon stations.
The 10-hour Jumbo Block will be executed with precision, spanning from 00:30 hours to 10:30 hours on Friday, October 27, affecting both the Up and Down Harbour Lines between Andheri and Goregaon. As a result, suburban services along this route will be temporarily unavailable during the stipulated block period, as declared by the Western Railway authorities.
To set the scene, it’s worth noting that the Western Railway had already announced the cancellation of more than 2,500 local train services in the Mumbai region, which is slated to last from October 27 to November 5.
Sumit Thakur, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, assured that despite the enormity of the task at hand, meticulous planning has been undertaken to minimize the disruption to rail traffic and ensure the least inconvenience to passengers.
