In a move to reduce the fatal accidents on highways, caused by road hypnotism, the Maharashtra government is taking innovative measures to avoid such situations.
It has been reported that the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will install artificial flowers, artificial boulders, multiple sculptures and different types of reflectors on the Samruddhi Expressway’s Vaijapur-Sindkhedaraja route, which has seen a total of 1285 accidents in the past 11 months.
The decision has been taken in a view to lowering the fatal accidents, using fake greenery. It will keep the driver more engaged while driving.
More Rumble Strip on Samruddhi Expressway
The concerned authority will also install reflective Informative boards and rumble strips at every 15 km distance before toll plaza entrances. These strips will work as a warning sign for drivers, protecting them from road hypnotism.
Reports say that the sole purpose of installing artificial greenery is to improve drivers’ attention spans on highways.
Ganaraj Developers Gets Project
To make the plan into reality, the highway authority has already kickstarted tree planting activity on the above-mentioned route. The whole project has been given to the Ganaraj Developers, based in the Hingoli district, while Meghraj Shelke from Vaijapur has been appointed as a subcontractor.
What is Road Hypnosis
It is a state of mind, where the driver goes zone out due to monotonous scenery while driving on long straight routes. In such states, the victim is not able to recognize their steering positioning, which usually leads to fatal accidents.
