The updated Afeela includes production-ready features such as traditional side view mirrors rather than cameras and larger headlights.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between the tech giant and the Japanese automaker, unveiled an updated prototype of the Afeela electric sedan.

According to reports, the electric vehicle (EV) appears to be getting closer to production based on the most recent prototype, which features an updated design that closely resembles the road-going model. The vehicle is expected to hit the global market in 2026, as reported by CarBike360.

Sony and Honda’s 2026 Afeela EV Sedan: Details Here

Among the most obvious design updates are a redesigned front bumper and an elongated nose with a built-in digital display. Moreover, sleek headlamps that are hidden beneath an illuminated strip flank the digital display. Traditional side mirrors and thicker pillars are features of the updated prototype. It is expected that the rear bumper and taillights will also be updated.

The sedan’s dimensions have also been updated in addition to the design changes. The car’s dimensions have increased; it is now 4,915 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. This indicates that the new prototype is 20 mm longer than the old one. The wheelbase, height, and width, however, are unchanged.

When you step inside the cabin, the car doesn’t change from the prior prototype. Nonetheless, a redesigned centre console is present, complete with two wireless smartphone chargers. Additional interior features include a new rearview mirror and a slightly modified steering wheel.

At CES 2024, an interesting feature was the Afeela electric sedan being driven by a PS5 controller. While demonstrating the EV, Sony Honda Mobility Inc. CEO Yasuhide Mizuno appeared on stage to discuss the in-car software experience. He began by demonstrating the car’s software-defined nature by driving it onto stage with a PS5 controller.

The Afeela electric sedan is powered by two electric motors that work together to provide all-wheel drive. This means that electric motors are installed on both the front and rear axles, sending power to all four wheels. Each of these electric motors can produce 241 bhp peak power, so the car should have a total output of up to 482 bhp. In addition, the electric motors are powered by a 91-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Sony Honda Mobility has not revealed many details about the Afeela sedan’s powertrain, but it has been confirmed that the electric vehicle will have a 150 kW DC fast charger and an 11 kW Level 2 charging capacity.
