Eat Raja juice centre has been selling freshly-made juice in fruit shells, doing away with plastic water bottles.

What is common between fruit juice and cycling ? Well, they are both related to good health. Fitness enthusiasts are often advised to drink juice post workout and cycling is of course part of a cardio training regimen. Now, what if you could combine them both? Indians never fail to amaze with their concept of ‘jugaad’, a colloquial term for rapid unconventional solutions to problems. One Mysuru based fruit juice seller named Anand Raj has come up with a new way of making juice for customers. His juice centre named Eat Raja is famous for its zero waste policy.

Since 2017, his Eat Raja juice centre has been selling freshly-made juice in fruit shells, doing away with plastic water bottles and other standard aspects of a juicery. Drinking from a fruit has an undeniable allure, and it aims to reduce a significant quantity of plastic and kitchen waste. Anand Raj has added a new twist to this, which is ‘zero electricity cycle mixie’. This apparatus lets you make your own juice by pedalling on a bicycle.

As you pedal, the mixie that is fastened to the back of the cycle grinds the fruit to produce juice. This saves electricity and you can also have an extra sugar topped juice guilt free, as the paddling on the cycle will take care of extra calories. Each minute of cycling saves 9 gms of CO2 emissions as per research and ends up burning a minimum 10 calories. So, you can imagine that Anand Raj’s invention is achieving multiple goals at one go. Anand Raj said in an interview that he and his fruit juice bicycle are often summoned at fairs, exhibitions as well as birthday parties where his customers produce quality juice for themselves through cycling.

A similar apparatus is also set up in Greenobar, a juice bar in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, where customers can paddle bicycles to produce juice.

What's your reaction?
