New Delhi: After a delay of nearly four years in its deliveries, Air India's first Boeing 787 Dreamliner will finally land in Delhi's IGI airport on Saturday evening.
The 256-seater Boeing 787 aircraft was to be handed over to Air India in 2008 but logistical issues like supply delays and labour trouble delayed the process.
One of the aircraft meant for Air India suffered a last minute hitch when debris fell off the Dreamliner's engine during a pre-flight test at the Charleston Airport.
Safety clearance has now been given by both US and Indian authorities. Air India has placed order for 27 Dreamliners in all and plans to get them by 2016.
The aircraft can carry between 210 and 250 passengers and fly long haul international routes upto 15,200 km.
Air India has said that the aircraft would be flown on busy domestic routes for about two months so that the already-trained pilots can practice more on take-offs and landings.
