Domestic air fares skyrocket for the second time in 2005.

New Delhi: The 10 per cent hike in fares announced by Indian Airlines comes into effect today.

Indian Airlines joins the list of private airlines who hiked their fares last week on account of the rise in aviation fuel prices.

"Confirmed tickets issued before October 18 would be accepted for travel at the pre-revised fares for the ticketed itinerary," the airline has said.

A Delhi-Chennai flight on Indian airlines will now cost Rs 14,510 compared to Rs 13,210 earlier.

The Delhi-Mumbai fare will now cost Rs 9,735 as compared to Rs 8,870 prior to the hike.

Indian Airlines says that the hike is applicable to all special fares also. This includes promotional, excursion, easy and point-to-point fares.

This is the second time this year that the domestic aviation sector would be raising fares.

In April, domestic air fares had gone up by 12 per cent.
