Indian Railways To Launch All-in-One 'Super App' For Passengers
The proposed super app will be an amalgamation of various existing mobile applications that deal with railway-linked services.

The Indian Railways has begun working on an integrated mobile application, tentatively titled ‘super app.’ The app will be consolidating various railway services into a single platform, as per the reports. Through the launch of this app, the government aims to provide a user-friendly experience to people. For the same, it will be setting up a one-stop solution for multiple railway-related tasks including ticket bookings, checking PNR status, and tracking train progress.

The proposed super app will be an amalgamation of various existing mobile applications that deal with railway-linked services. It will have features of apps like IRCTC Rail Connect, UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System), Rail Madad, and the National Train Enquiry System. These features, when combined to form an app, will result in more convenience for users as they will not need to download multiple apps for different purposes.

The development of the super app is being done under the guidance of the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). CRIS is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Railways. As per the reports, the Indian Railways is estimated to invest Rs. 90 crore to finance the project and operate the app for three years.

A senior government official highlighted that the super app is being designed considering user feedback and that it will enhance the functionality of Indian Railways’ digital services. He also emphasised the goal of introducing the app and said that it would reduce the number of downloads required to access all the services related to Indian Railways.

It is pertinent to note that IRCTC Rail Connect, currently, is the most popular among all Indian Railways apps. It has been downloaded more than 100 million times. The other apps that people frequently use include Rail Madad, UTS, Satark, TMS-Nirikshan, IRCTC Air, and PortRead, among others. Now, with the introduction of a unified super app, there will be no need for users to navigate and download multiple apps as it will present a more cohesive and efficient solution for passengers.
