New Delhi: Warning that 'fear psychosis' was being created to slow down projects of national interest, India's corporate leader Mukesh Amabni on Wednesday threw his lot behind Tata's Nano project in Singur saying industry and politicians need to work together.
"A fear psychosis is being created to slow down certain projects of national importance. This will be counter productive for the country's economic growth, its global image as well as our ability to attract investments from across the world," the Reliance Industries Chairman said in a statement.
Ambani called for the Indian industry and the political leadership to work together to meet aspirations of millions of Indians in urban and rural areas.
Ambani's statement comes in the wake of Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata threatening to pull out the Rs 1,5ÿ 1.7 lakh hectares under irrigation using 21.5 tmc ft of water in the perennially drought hit Chitradurga district.
The project would also provide drinking water to Tumkur and Kolar districts, Minister for Rural Development Shobha Karandlaje told reporters here.
The project was expected to be completed by 2012-13, she said.
During 2008-09, the government planned to spend Rs 314 crore, Rs 1199 crore in 2009-10, Rs 1716 crore in 2010-11, Rs 1717 crore during 2011-12 and Rs 1039 crore in 2012-13, she said.
The cabinet has fixed Rs 650 as Minimum Support Price (MSP) per quintal of Maize and released Rs 7.5 crore for market intervention in the event of the rates falling below the MSP.
