New Delhi: General Electric (GE) Company has announced the appointment of Tejpreet Singh Chopra as the President and CEO of GE India. He will succeed Scott R Bayman, who served in this role with distinction for 14 years.
Chopra will be responsible for the strategic and overall leadership of all GE businesses in India. A graduate of St Stephen's College, Delhi, and Cornell University with a degree in Economics and an MBA, Chopra held various business roles in France, England, Hong Kong, India and USA.
Chopra a 10-year GE veteran, brought considerable management and global finance experience to the post of CEO, Commercial Finance.
Prior to this, Chopra was Senior Vice-President and Country Head-India for GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing unit of GE.
In 2005, he moved from the unit's headquarters in Stanford, Connecticut, USA, to open the GECAS office in Delhi and has since arranged more than $1 billion in financing for India's growing airline industry.
Since 1996, he has held positions in marketing, structured finance and risk management for GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) at Stamford and Hong Kong.
With over 20 years of experience, Chopra takes up the position of President & CEO, GE in India, with effect from June 1, 2007, reporting directly to Ferdinando Beccalli-Falco, President & Chief Executive Officer of GE International.
The appointment of Chopra as the president of the company is a testimony to the high calibre of Indian leadership. Chopra’s in-depth industry experience will play a crucial role in driving for accelerated growth in India," Beccalli-Falco said.
Chopra says the India growth story has captured the imagination of the world and GE's plan for India is firmly aligned with the country's objectives.
