New Delhi: After its acquisition of 50 per cent stake in Ten Sports, Zee Group has said there could be a possibility of merger of the Dubai-based channel with its sports channel, Zee Sports, in future.

The Subhash Chandra-promoted group also said its Vice-Chairman Jawahar Goel would take over as Chairman of Ten Sports in a year's time replacing present incumbent Abdul Rahman Bukhatir.

"The possibility of merger of the two sports channel – Zee Sports and Ten Sports – is not ruled out," Zee Sports Business Head, Himanshu Mody said.

He said details of the future course of action after the stake acquisition would be worked out shortly and a blueprint was expected to be ready by December 2006.

"Teams of the two channels will be meeting in the next eight to ten days to discuss future strategy on functioning of the two channels," Mody said.

“Post-acquisition in Ten Sports, Zee will have four of its directors, including Jawahar Goel, Puneet Goel, Deepak Jain and Yogesh Radhakrishnan on the board of Ten Sports,” he said.

Mody further said that Ten Sports would continue to have three of its directors on the channel's Board.

“Chris McDonald would continue to be CEO of Ten Sports,” he added.

As a result of the acquisition, Zee would get access to Ten Sports' infrastructure in Dubai, which could also be utilised for other programmes, besides sports broadcasts.
