The movie is none other than Madana Kama Rajan, which was directed by BN Rao and was bankrolled by SS Vasan. The movie marked the first film in which Vasan donned the hat of the producer for Amritham Talkies. Madana Kama Rajan turns 82 years old today. It was released on November 28, 1941. The movie featured actors like VV Sadagopan, N Krishnamurthi, KLV Vasantha, MV Rajamma and Kothamangalam Subbu. The movie also stars K. R. Chellam, T. S. Durairaj, M. S. Sundari Bai, M. R. Reportedly, SS Vasan bought Motion Pictures Producers Combines Studio during an auction and renamed it Gemini Studios. In 1941, Dindigul-based Amritham Talkies signed a contract to finance Madana Kama Rajan. During that time, Amritha Talkies was funded by more than 20 shareholders. Due to differences of opinion, the shooting of the movie stopped and Vasan decided to back the movie to finish the shooting.
The film’s plot revolves around the Prince of Mayendrapuri named Madana Kama Rajan. He has a best friend named Gunaseelan. The story revolves around how everyone tries to set up the prince with Gurudeva’s daughter, Bhagwati. The prince later falls in love with the princess of Bhimapur, Premavalli. Madana Kama Rajan emerged as a commercial success for its unique storyline. In fact, Gemini Studios ended up becoming a major player in the Tamil movie industry after this film. The music of the movie was described as essentially carnatic. Everyone appreciated its humour, which was witty and clean, and like a breath of fresh air for Tamil movies then.
