The audio launch of Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming release Leo has been marred in controversy for a long while now. With very little information about when the film would have its audio launch, it was reported that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies was arm-twisting the production team of Leo to hand over the distribution rights in major parts of Tamil Nadu. In return, the team would be allowed to hold its audio launch at Chennai’s Nehru Indoor Stadium on September 30. The production team dismissed this as rumours.
Now that the audio launch of Leo has abruptly been cancelled at the eleventh hour, many fingers are again being pointed at Udhayanidhi Stalin and Red Giant movies. Although Leo’s production banner Seven Screen Studios has said that too much demand for passes resulted in the cancellation, fans of Vijay believe a political ploy was the reason.
The makers announced through their social media handle that considering too many demands for passes and inadequate security measures, the audio launch was postponed and promised to keep fans updated. However, the Chengalpattu unit of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has a different opinion.
Members of Vijay’s People movement have put up posters all over the city in Chengalpattu accusing a political party of not permitting the audio launch. The posters also talk about political figures fearing Vijay’s entry into politics. Many people have shared these posters on the internet and are talking about welcoming Vijay into politics.
In compensation for cancelling the audio launch, the team of Leo released its second single Badass yesterday September 28, keeping the sentiments of fans in mind.
Leo also stars Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun and Gautham Vasudev Menon in important roles, marking Sanjay Dutt’s debut in Tamil cinema. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, it is intended to be the third instalment of Lokesh Cinematic Universe, presently comprising Kaithi and Vikram. Leo is slated for release on October 19.
