The Afghanistan cricket team will look to make a strong statement when they head into this year’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to start from June 2. The Asian outfit has already finalised their squad for the mega event, which will be held in the West Indies and the USA. Afghanistan named a 15-player team, which will be led by their star all-rounder Rashid Khan.

They have prepared a balanced side comprising both experienced players and talented youngsters. Hashmatullah Shahidi, who was the captain of Afghanistan at the ODI World Cup last year, has failed to secure a place. His last T20I appearance came two years back. On the other hand, Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq and Noor Ahmad, who featured in the 2022 World Cup, have retained their spots.

Along with Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti and Mohammad Nabi make up the Afghan spin department. Their fast-bowling unit features Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooq. Afghanistan have also picked three travelling reserves– Hazratullah Zazai, Saleem Safi and Sediq Atal.
